Multi-Year Accessibility Plan

 
Introduction
 
The Cornerstone Group of Companies Accessibility plan has been designed to support the principles and requirements outlined in the Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act, 2005 (“AODA”). This plan outlines Cornerstone’s strategy to prevent and remove barriers to accessibility.
 
Statement of Organizational Commitment  
 
Cornerstone is committed to providing an accessible and inclusive environment for all individuals. We will meet the needs of people with disabilities in a timely manner, which respects dignity and independence. As an employer, Cornerstone is committed to ensuring that we provide equal access to employment opportunities and a workplace that accommodates the needs of all our employees.
 
General Standards
 
Accessibility Policies
Cornerstone has developed policies with regard to how we have or will achieve the requirements of the Customer Service Standard and the Integrated Accessibility Standards as outlined in the AODA. All Employees are required to read, understand and acknowledge these policies as a condition of their employment with Cornerstone.

Training
All Cornerstone Employees have received training on the requirements of the Customer Service Standard with regard to providing goods and services to people with disabilities.
 
In addition, all Cornerstone Employees have received training with regard to the requirements of the Integrated Accessibility Standards and the Ontario Human Rights Code as it pertains to people with disabilities.
 
Training is provided by the Human Resources department and is currently available in multiple formats including face to face classroom training and a Power Point module. Other formats will be made available upon request.

Information and Communication Standards
 
Accessible Formats and Communication Supports
Cornerstone has notified the public, via our website, about the availability of accessible formats and communication supports for people with disabilities. 
 
Upon request, we will arrange to provide accessible formats and communication supports to people with disabilities in a timely manner while taking into account the person’s accessibility needs. 
 
We will consult with the person making the request to determine the suitability of an accessible format or communication support and ensure that there is no cost to the person making the request above the regular cost charged to other people.

Accessible Websites and Web Content 
Cornerstone will work toward ensuring that our website and web content conforms to the standards as outlined in the Worldwide Web Consortium’s “Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.0”.
 
(a) By January 1, 2014, Cornerstone will ensure that all new or redesigned websites and web content managed by Cornerstone will conform to WCAG 2.0, Level A
 
(b) By January 1, 2021, Cornerstone will ensure that all websites and web content managed by Cornerstone will conform to WCAG 2.0, Level AA.

Employment Standards
 
Workplace Emergency Response Information 
Cornerstone has a process in place to provide individualized workplace emergency response information to Employees who have a disability, provided that Cornerstone has been made aware of the need for accommodation due to the Employee’s disability.

Recruitment 
Cornerstone supports applicants with disabilities throughout the recruitment, selection and hiring process.
 
All Cornerstone job postings are written in plain language and will be made available in accessible formats, upon request.
All Cornerstone job postings state that accommodation is available for people with disabilities, upon request.
Cornerstone will consult with selected applicants who request accommodation and provide or arrange for this accommodation in a way that takes into account the person’s accessibility needs.
Cornerstone notifies successful applicants of our policies for accommodating Employees with disabilities when making an offer of employment.

Accessible Formats and Communication Supports for Employees 
Cornerstone supports our Employees with disabilities by providing information in a clear and accessible way that will help them to effectively perform in their jobs.
 
Cornerstone provides information to our Employees about our policies to support Employees with disabilities throughout the recruitment and hiring process, including job accommodation policies that take into account an Employee’s accessibility needs.
Cornerstone will arrange to provide accessible formats and communication supports that are needed to perform the Employee’s job or for information that is generally available to Employees in the workplace. 
Cornerstone consults with our Employees with disabilities to determine the suitability of an accessible format or communication support. 
Cornerstone provides updated information to Employees whenever there is a change to an existing policy.

Individual Accommodation Plans 
Cornerstone supports our Employees with disabilities by having a formal written process in place for the development of documented Individual Accommodation Plans.
 
Cornerstone’s Accommodation policy includes the following:
 
How the Employee requesting accommodation can participate in the development of the Individual Accommodation Plan.
The means by which the Employee will be assessed on an individual basis.
The manner in which Cornerstone can request an evaluation from an outside medical (or other) expert to assist in determining if accommodation can be achieved, and if so, how.
How the Employee can request the participation of a representative from the workplace in the development of an Individual Accommodation Plan.
The steps that will be taken to protect the privacy of the Employee’s personal information.
The frequency with which the Individual Accommodation Plan will be reviewed and how the review will be completed.
The manner in which reasons for denial will be communicated to the Employee if their request for an Individual Accommodation Plan is denied.
The means by which the Employee’s Individual Accommodation Plan will be provided to them in a format that takes into account the Employee’s disability.

Return to Work Process 
Cornerstone is committed to supporting our Employees throughout the return to work process if they have been absent as a result of a disability.
 
Cornerstone has a documented return to work process in place. This process outlines the steps that will be taken to facilitate the return to work for Employees who have been absent as a result of a disability.
Cornerstone consults with the Employee to determine if any accommodation is required as part of their return and this is documented in their Individual Accommodation Plan.

Performance Management, Career Development and Redeployment 
Cornerstone is committed to considering the accessibility needs of Employees with disabilities throughout the performance management process and when making decisions related to career development, advancement or redeployment.
 
Cornerstone has reviewed our existing practices regarding performance management, career development, advancement and redeployment to ensure that they comply with the Integrated Accessibility Standards Regulation.
Cornerstone ensures that our Managers understand their responsibility to take an Employee’s accessibility needs into account throughout the performance management process or when making decisions with regard to career development, advancement or redeployment.
Cornerstone will provide information related to performance management, career development, advancement or redeployment to Employees in an accessible format, upon request.

Status of Accessibility Plan
Cornerstone will review and update this Multi-Year Accessibility Plan annually and report on our progress made toward implementing the accessibility strategies outlined above. 
 
The status updates to the Multi-Year Accessibility Plan will be made available to the public on our corporate website and will be made available in an accessible format, upon request.
